Too Hot to Work? Gov. Says You Can’t Go Home

You are here: Home / Thermal Comfort / Too Hot to Work? Gov. Says You Can’t Go Home

Even with the British heatwaves showing no signs of slowing down, the government have no plans to set maximum working temperatures.

As temperatures continue to roar in the capital and other places in the UK, millions of workplaces are being affected. One office in Shoreditch said they are restricted as they are in a listed building and cannot install “hideous air conditioning units”. Their solution is to provide the staff with cold treats including ice cream and ice lollies.

As new buildings continue to be developed, thermal comfort is rarely taken into consideration. Most modern designs heavily feature glass and open plan working environments with central air conditioners that fail to provide comfort for all staff members. This can create ‘office con wars’, unhappy employees and lower levels of productivity.

In addition to thermal discomfort, there is an even bigger issue of air quality. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, recently raised yet another air quality alert, bringing the total to nine. He said that although invisible, air pollution can be extremely dangerous, especially as the heatwaves worsen.

Surprisingly, unlike the US, Spain and other countries, the UK government have no plans on creating a maximum working temperature. This ultimately means it’s down to employers to create better thermal conditions and also to reduce indoor air pollution.

With more heatwaves on the horizon, is there a permanent solution to keeping the workplace cool, comfortable and productive?

The answer is yes, with the award-winning Ingenious Air® System. It combines comfortable, draught-free cooling and heating with air and surface purification. This creates the ultimate, balanced and healthy indoor environment, which improves wellness and productivity.

The intelligent cooling module creates an even, comfortable and draught-free indoor environment, eliminating thermal discomfort in the workplace. The induction method of air delivery allows for lowered relative humidity when cooling, which can achieve comfort at slightly warmer set temperatures than other systems.

In addition, the heating module uses a natural, energy efficient de-stratification effect. Warmed air that usually rises and is trapped at a high level is brought back down to floor level to be re-used. Cold air normally falling to floor level is re-distributed.

In a busy workplace, integrating high specification air purification dramatically reduces all types of serious airborne pollutants before they are breathed in. Air purification also removes unpleasant odours, which can have the potential benefit of reducing the amount of polluted outside air required.

Complete the system with surface purification, powered by Provilan® to create the ultimate wellness solution. Probiotics are added to the air stream to add balance by replenishing the ‘good’ bacteria. These high quality, natural and eco-friendly microorganisms, help reduce infectious diseases by overpopulating bad bacteria in hard to reach places including keyboards.

Backed by years of experience, research and development and various case studies, The Ingenious Air® System can help offices and other workplaces, homes and just about everything in between.
